Thankyou to retiring Board members

December 4, 2024

GMC Chair, Thys Heyns, paid tribute to retiring GMC Board members, Professor Tuba Kocaturk, and Greg Hughes, at last week’s GMC AGM. Both directors had been on the Board since 2021.

“We are enormously grateful to them for their commitment and service over the past three years, and look forward to continuing to work closely together in the future in other ways,” he said.

“I would like to thank each and every one of our Board members for their contributions to the GMC Board. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you all in my capacity as Chair over the past year, and sincerely appreciate that I have been able to rely on your support.”

Two new directors were welcomed to the Board during the AGM. They are Deakin University’s Dr Matt Nussio and Incitec Pivot’s Shane Hase.

Geelong born and bred, Shane Hase has a deep understanding of the region’s manufacturing sector and significant experience in international business across multiple roles and all levels of commercial operations. Beginning his journey to senior leadership as a boilermaker, Shane is dedicated to community and has worked tirelessly for the past 10 years promoting and enhancing youth participation in sport in the northern suburbs of Geelong.

Dr Matt Nussio is Deakin University’s Director – Commercial Initiatives and Enterprise Partnerships and brings a wealth of industry and academic knowledge and experience to the Board.  This has included a strong focus on building large industry-university partnerships in manufacturing, clean energy and food innovation. Matt also has extensive industry experience having held strategic roles for global companies such as PerkinElmer, KPMG and GE.

“I am very pleased to welcome both our new Directors,” Mr Heyns said.  “With a Board consisting of great calibre directors and an effective staff team under Jenn’s leadership, the GMC is on a sound footing and I am confident that we will continue serving our members well.”
