Geelong metal manufacturing

Geelong’s metals industry expertise is strong. While Alcoa first began the manufacture of aluminium ingot at its Point Henry plant in 1963 and has been Victoria’s largest exporter, the company closed it’s Point Henry facilities in 2014, and now a strong engineering support base continues to operate in the region.

Other metals activities have included Alcoa aluminium coil and sheet product. Backwell IXL has operated a foundry since 1858 and now supplies products to the aluminium industry and industrial customers Australia-wide.
