Geelong Future Leaders of Industry & Girls Leading Advanced Manufacturing

Geelong Future Leaders of Industry and Girls Leading Advanced Manufacturing (GFLOI & GLAM) are six-month long STEM immersion programs for Year 9 and 10 students from the Geelong region. The programs, co-ordinated by Geelong Manufacturing Council and supported by Skilling The Bay, allow students to experience pathways and career options in the manufacturing, engineering and STEM trades sectors via industry tours and presentations, provide job readiness and leadership skills training, and introduce students to a number of role-models including scientists, engineers and senior management of some of our region’s most important and advanced manufacturers.

GFLOI & GLAM offer an ideal opportunity for schools to broaden the outlook of their students via these immersion programs. The opportunity to speak to industry role models and participate in hands-on workshops encouraged 85% of 2018 participates to ensure they take appropriate subjects in Years 10, 11 & 12 to enable them to enter into an occupation a STEM related sector.
