GMC’s Commercial Managers group recently toured Walkinshaw’s state-of-the-art facility in Dandenong South, gaining a rare behind-the-scenes look at an operation supporting some of the world’s best-known vehicle brands, including Volkswagen, Toyota, RAM, Isuzu, GM and Mitsubishi.
Established in 1987, Walkinshaw now remanufactures and modifies more than 10,000 vehicles each year across five separate production lines.
In October 2025, Walkinshaw opened a new 58,000-square-metre facility bringing together multiple sites, creating new efficiencies and strengthening the quality systems required for precision engineering, design and remanufacturing.
Members saw vehicle modifications, re-manufacturing processes and right-hand-drive conversions for Australian markets, while learning how Walkinshaw’s focus on precision and quality has supported growth from 250 employees to more than 900.
The visit offered valuable ideas to take back to their own businesses, from facility consolidation and production flow to quality management and workforce capability development.
Walkinshaw also owns the Walkinshaw TWG Racing team competing in the Australian Supercars Championship as well as developing hydrogen fuel-cell technology, agriculture and defence – demonstrating how manufacturers can diversify, innovate and build capability for emerging markets to help future-proof their business.
