Manufacturing voice on Barwon Regional Partnership

November 10, 2022

GMC Director, Thys Heyns, has been formally appointed to the Barwon Regional Partnership by Minister for Regional Victoria, Harriet Shing.

My Heyns, who is GMC Deputy Chair, takes up the voluntary position as Business and Community member of the Barwon Regional Partnership, effective until 30 June 2026.

GMC CEO, Jenn Conley, warmly welcomed the appointment, saying the Barwon Regional Partnership is one of nine Partnerships across the state, established by the Victorian Government to understand the challenges and opportunities faced by the regions.

“It is critical that manufacturing’s voice is heard – and Thys is a magnificent advocate,” she said.

The Barwon Region has a dynamic economy, with a strong manufacturing and processing sector, and great potential for growth in the professional services, tourism, international education, healthcare, information and communication technologies and agribusiness sectors.

The appointment, made last month, reflects Mr Heyns proven commitment to community and the manufacturing sector in the region.

Each year, the Partnership engages with the Barwon community and presents a set of regional priorities to the Victorian Government.  The Partnership looks to champion initiatives that will enhance the social, cultural, environmental, and economic wellbeing of the communities in the Barwon region.
