Inquiry into student pathways in in-demand industries

The Victorian Government’s final report on the Inquiry into Student Pathways in In Demand Industries was published yesterday, with a number of GMC’s recommendations included in the report. GMC advocated for facilitation of greater awareness and promotion of careers in advanced manufacturing for students, careers advisors and parents.

  • GMC Recommendation: Fund release days for school staff to participate in immersion programs and recognise as PD
    • Professional development for teachers and staff recommended
  • GMC Recommendation: Training and immersion for careers advisors; include industry information and outreach programs in careers resources
    • Multiple recommendations on career practitioner capacity, teacher PD, labour market information and career education (careers awareness for parents as well)
  • GMC Recommendation: Expand proven outreach programs such as GFLOI and GLAM
    • Expansion of vocational tasters, Tech Schools, work experience and industry engagement recommended
  • GMC Recommendation: Expand structured WIL and immersion programs; support employers providing work experience
    • Multiple recommendations on placements, work-based learning, employer support and LLENs
