WIMN Summit unites regional industry

June 18, 2026

Last week’s Geelong Manufacturing Council Regional WIMN Summit brought together more than 70 attendees from across manufacturing, mining, renewables, education and government, reflecting the breadth and strength of regional industry. The day created a valuable forum for practical and inspiring discussions about workforce pipelines, attraction, retention and the workplace cultures that help people show up at their best and stay.

A strong theme from the day was that businesses making deliberate decisions about who they recruit, how they develop people and the environments they create are building more resilient, inclusive and competitive teams. Speakers and participants shared insights on the importance of leadership, visibility, career pathways and workplace flexibility in strengthening regional workforces.

A big thank you to all our Summit speakers:

  • Minister for Regional Development Michaela Settle
  • Kellie Phillips
  • Lyn George, Corporate Director Austeng and GMC Director

The Summit reinforced that regional industry faces shared workforce challenges, but also significant opportunity. Across sectors, the businesses moving ahead are those acting now to attract, retain and promote talent, while creating cultures where diverse skills and experiences are valued.

The Summit also welcomed secondary students who are exploring careers in manufacturing, mining, renewables or STEM and provided them with a valuable opportunity to connect with industry and leaders, developing new industry connections and a clearer understanding of the rewarding pathways available in industry across the region.

Thank you to Minister for Regional Development, Michaela Settle, for opening the day, and to Regional Development Australia Grampians, Regional Partnerships Central Highlands and Wimmera Southern Mallee, and Commonwealth Bank for supporting an important regional conversation about the future of work, industry and opportunity.
