Food and Agribusiness Network – CSIRO tour and briefing

December 11, 2025

Last week our Food and Agribusiness Network (FAN) visited CSIRO’s Food Innovation Centre – our second FAN event, supported by the City of Greater Geelong.

The tour and briefing provided a great insight into CSIRO’s capabilities available to support innovation and industry up-lift in food and beverage processing.

CSIRO is one of the top global research agencies with incredible innovations credited to their work, including developing Wifi and Aerogard.

What you might not know is that food and beverage manufacturers can tap into CSIRO’s national-level R&D without needing a fully-fledged in-house team.

Our tour included a look at their 3000sqm pilot plant and a look at the extrusion technology being used to minimise food waste in fruit and veg, their innovative high-pressure processes designed to increase shelf-life and minimize adverse effects on quality, taste and nutrition in food and beverages.

We also sampled plant-based meat mimetic products, developed in partnership with v2food, designed to replicate the structure and taste of meat products, as well as vegetable extrusion crisps developed with Nutri V.

CSIRO has a range of customizable support for research, product and capability development available, as well as eligibility-based – not competitive – grants for Food and Agriculture via the KickStart program.

Next year we’re planning to extend the Food and Agribusiness Network to include a Growth program called GFAN – to provide training, events and resources specifically for Food, Beverage and Agribusiness manufacturers/ processors.
