We were delighted to see GMC member Hanlon Industries featured in the Geelong Advertiser last Saturday as part of our BIG IDEAS project.
The project aims to support more manufacturers to overcome systemic challenges and benefit from a more diverse workforce and bigger talent pool. We met with three young female apprentices happily work as apprentices and trade-qualified-boilermakers at Hanlon. This included their first ever female apprentice Rachel Rider, who is now a fully qualified boilermaker, Iesha Swan (third year apprentice) and Hanlon’s youngest apprentice – 16-year-old Mahlie Smith (first year apprentice).
Their collective advice to women considering a manufacturing trade career: “Just go for it.”
You can find tools, resources and case studies to support your organisation to attract, develop and retain more women in your workforce, here: www.geelongmanufacturingcouncil.com.au/big-ideas-project.
