Hydrogen Prospectus showcases Geelong’s renewable potential

June 26, 2025

GMC member, Barwon Water, recently unveiled its Barwon South West Renewable Hydrogen prospectus to highlight our region’s potential to become a hub for renewable hydrogen development.

The Prospectus represents the collective vision of more than 40 organisations that are united in their mission to accelerate the national energy transition through the development of a local renewable hydrogen industry.

Barwon Water Managing Director Shaun Cumming launched the Prospectus at GMC’s Geelong Hydrogen Expo saying there were five key ingredients that the region could draw on to grow a renewable hydrogen industry.

They are renewable energy; recycled water; land; skills, research and development; and access to domestic and export markets.

“I equate (the region) to the Kelloggs cereal Just Right – we’re not too heavy, we’re not too light. We have enough muscle to do stuff and we’re small enough to be connected and make things happen.

“That is reflected in this Prospectus – over 40 different organisations were involved in the development of this Prospectus, which is a sign of the collaboration in our region.”
