The Australian Government’s new migration strategy shows signs that it may help to address critical skills shortages currently faced by manufacturers.
One of eight key actions outlined in the strategy is to target temporary skilled migration to address skills needs and promote worker mobility.
GMC met with the Immigration Minister’s office earlier this year to highlight difficulties members face in accessing skilled workers from overseas. We are hopeful that the new Specialist Skills Pathway will make it easier for Australian manufacturers to attract highly skilled workers to meet targeted workforce needs, and welcome a simpler, regularly updated occupation list for the skills Australia needs.
