Last night, at an awards ceremony at GMHBA Stadium, Viva Energy CEO Scott Wyatt announced the winner of the 2022 Community Legend Award is Libby Bate, President of the Cancer After Care Group. Libby is one of a handful of Geelong volunteers who were recognised last night for the volunteer work they do in the community.

Other winners included Rising Star Award winner Jess Johns for her work with the South Barwon Football & Netball Club, and People’s Choice Award winner, Damian McKeegan, from Geelong Youth Engagement. They got to share from an overall prize pool of more than $75,000 for themselves and the organisations they represent.

The Community Legends Awards is one way that Viva Energy gives back to the community that has supported its refinery in Geelong for nearly 70 years. Mr Wyatt said the company is the proud sponsor of 16 local grassroots sporting clubs, a key sponsor of the Geelong Cats and one of the inaugural sponsors of the Cats’ Women’s Team.

“The majority of the 700 people who work at the refinery live in and around Geelong,” Mr Wyatt said. “That makes us part of the fabric of the community. We know how important our support is for these organisations and we look forward to continuing that support into the future as we grow and evolve.”
