Global geopolitical tensions are creating an environment where hacktivists and politically motivated cyber actors may attempt attacks on organisations worldwide.
While there’s currently no evidence of increased threats specifically targeting Australia, the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) and Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC) urge businesses to remain alert and regularly review their cyber security posture.
Organisations should strengthen detection, mitigation and response capabilities, especially against common hacktivist tactics such as DDoS attacks, brute forcing and website defacement.
Implementing the Essential Eight mitigation strategies – alongside securing devices, networks and websites – significantly reduces vulnerability. ACSC also recommends maintaining robust incident response plans to ensure rapid, effective action if an attack occurs.
