GMC’s submission to the City of Greater Geelong’s Draft Industrial Land Supply Review report highlighted the critical need to protect and enhance Geelong’s strong industrial assets that support our manufacturers, provide thousands of jobs and are critical to driving industry and economic growth.
We argued the critical need to protect existing and future industry operations from residential encroachment by enshrining minimum buffer zones. We also pushed for greater industrial lot size diversity that better meets the needs of manufacturers and industry, particularly for small and medium manufacturers, which also provide space for them to grow their operations.
Another key issue raised was the need for industrial developments to be fully serviced with appropriate transport infrastructure, trade waste management, water and sewerage and electrical supply.
While our region prepares for continued population growth, we already have major residential developments, including NWGGA – the largest urban development project in Victoria which will support another 110,000 residents in Greater Geelong. As our population grows, our industrial spaces will become even more important to driving our economy and supporting ever more jobs.
