GMC welcomes Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing

June 26, 2025

GMC welcomed Victoria’s Minister for Industry and Advanced Manufacturing, the Hon Colin Brooks MP, for a special roundtable meeting on regional manufacturing challenges and opportunities.

We were grateful to GMC long-standing member, Air Radiators, for a tour of the site and overview of new opportunities for the business. GMC’s schools program coordinator, Nicole Rosbergen, introduced Minister Brooks and local member for Lara, Ella George, to our Girls Leading Advanced Manufacturing (GLAM) careers immersion program. The Year 9  and 10 students were deep in a hands-on learning project, onsite at Air Radiators, coding and building robots.

This year over 80 girls are participating in GLAM in Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo & Colac.

As part of a wide-ranging discussion, GMC Chair, Thys Heyns, and CEO, Jenn Conley, shared member concerns on energy policies and urged continued opening up of gas supply for the state’s manufacturers. The meeting touched on local procurement and the government’s efforts to strengthen local jobs delivery. GMC provided detail around the organisation’s training and knowledge cluster programs supporting capabilities in manufacturing, and the ongoing need to raise student awareness about the rewarding career opportunities the sector offers.

Thank you to the Air Radiators team and Executive General Manager, Paul Sergeant, for supporting the visit with a tour of the company’s facility.

GLAM receives support from the Victorian Government via Skilling the Bay and the Australian Government.
