March 19, 2026

The Geelong-India Export Forum, hosted by GMC as part of the City of Greater Geelong’s Collaborative Futures Forum, showcased the significant and growing potential of Australia-India trade. The event brought industry leaders together to explore how our region can tap into one of the world’s most dynamic and fast‑growing markets.

A clear message emerged: the opportunity for Australian manufacturers – especially in regions like Geelong – is immense when we take a long‑term, partnership‑driven approach. This isn’t just about exporting goods, it’s about building complementary capability that delivers greater value for both countries.

GMC CEO Jennifer Conley set the tone with a powerful overview of Geelong’s manufacturing strengths and how they align with India’s rapid growth trajectory. She highlighted the strategic advantage of collaboration and capability‑building, rather than simple transactional trade.

Australia-India industry expert Natasha Jha Bhaskar (Newland Global Group) offered sharp, practical insights into recent trade growth, navigating the Indian market, and reinforcing where real opportunities lie for Australian businesses ready to think big and commit for the long haul.

Food and Agribusiness leader Angeline Achariya FTSE GAICD underscored the importance of approaching the India relationship with intent and patience – reminding attendees that productive collaboration takes time, trust and shared vision. It cannot be a transactional approach.

From a manufacturing perspective, Vivek Govindaraj from GMC member RPC Technologies shared grounded advice on establishing capability in India, particularly the need to understand local supply chains and secure the right partnerships early.

Rounding out the discussion, Anmol Sharma (AMBE Foods) encouraged Australian exporters to leverage our strengths in advanced technology, quality systems and innovation – key advantages in a competitive global market.
