AGM wraps up a big year for Geelong manufacturing

November 27, 2025

This week, GMC’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) brought together members to reflect on achievements and celebrate the hard work and successes of our region’s manufacturing sector.

GMC Chair Thys Heyns emphasized manufacturing’s critical role as a driver of economic prosperity and contributor to Gross Regional Product. He acknowledged the challenges faced by manufacturers, particularly increased compliance, which is costing the Australian economy $160 billion a year and has more than doubled in the last decade according to a study by the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD).

He also highlighted the strength and resilience of Geelong’s manufacturing sector, showcased by this year’s outstanding results at the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame Awards. Geelong manufacturers took home four awards, and every finalist in the Regional Manufacturer category hailed from Geelong – a testament to our region’s manufacturing capability and leadership.
