GMC’s Seed2STEM heads to Ballarat with industry support

August 10, 2023

Exciting news is on the horizon as the Geelong Manufacturing Council extends its successful GLAM and WIMN programs to vibrant Ballarat, thanks to federal government funding from the Department of Industry, Science, and Resources.

The initiative will be known as Seed2STEM and aims to bridge the gender gap in STEM fields by fostering awareness and mentorship within advanced manufacturing, engineering, and tech-based industries.

The program comprises two vital initiatives: a STEM careers immersion experience for Year 9 & 10 girls, and a comprehensive 9-month mentoring journey for women in or transitioning to manufacturing or engineering careers.

The GMC is delighted for the opportunity to collaborate with esteemed companies in Ballarat, including Ferndale Foods, Vitrify Life Sciences, McCains, John Holland, IBM, Nicholson Constructions, Central Highlands Water, Gekko and Gforce to name just a few! These partners are integral to the program’s success, as they showcase the possibilities of STEM careers for Ballarat’s young women and support them during their STEM career journey.

We’re very grateful for the extremely positive reception and support of Committee for Ballarat, Commerce Ballarat, Ballarat Tech School and Federation University as we work together to bring a suite of support and programs to build workforce capability in the region.

Together, we are working towards a brighter future, where STEM education thrives and women find their place in the exciting world of advanced manufacturing and engineering.

An official launch for the Seed2STEM Ballarat will be held on September 13, 2023.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our new partners for their commitment and support. We eagerly anticipate a transformative journey ahead, fostering growth, diversity, and innovation in Ballarat’s manufacturing landscape throughout 2024 and 2025.

Here’s to a future of possibilities and empowerment!
