Urgent appeal to the Federal Government on IR reform

December 1, 2022

The GMC has today made further representation to the Federal Government, including urgent appeals to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles & Minister for Industry & Science Ed Husic, to exclude the manufacturing industry from the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill.

“Manufacturers believe that reforms included in the Bill, such as multi-employer “single interest” bargaining, expose their businesses to further risk, when they’re already under pressure from high energy prices and labour shortages,” GMC CEO Jenn Conley said.

The legislation is currently going through the committee stage and is expected to pass the Senate later today.

Today’s representations follow GMC’s requests to cross-bench Senators in November, urging them to vote against passing the Bill to allow further industry consultation and understanding of potential unintended implications. Read here.
