Manufacturing Leaders deliver improvements / creating value and strengthen industry outlook.
The 2017 Leadership for Manufacturing Excellence graduation featured a fantastic group of participants and companies from across the region.
There is a rule of thumb expectation that participating companies will yield benefits of approximately $300k and this has been well and truly achieved in 2017, with one of the best performing cohorts since the program began in 2012.
Over $10M in tracked benefits to participant companies is a great result and is testament to the great work of Leadership for Manufacturing Excellence project manager and coach Jenny Perks, and the delivery team which includes several local companies (Elite Team Dynamics, G2 Innovation, Essential Theatre) and a national leader in lean manufacturing (TXM Lean Solutions).
Geelong Manufacturing Council established the Leadership for Manufacturing Excellence program to boost leadership skills and help companies develop the pipeline of talent to take industry forward in this era of rapid change. Participants increase their capability in lean manufacturing, leadership and team culture and innovation.
“It was evident at the graduation that companies take this program very seriously and realise that they can extract significant financial and team leadership benefits from participating. This year’s outstanding results included $1.5m pa in extra revenue, increased production of $450,000 pa, $742,000 in annual energy savings and introduction of a new processing method to save over $6m in quality and output. We have already had several of the 2017 companies commit for the 2018 program,” said David Peart, CEO, Geelong Manufacturing Council.
Viva Energy General Manager, Thys Heyns, was the Keynote Speaker at the event. He congratulated graduates on their endeavours and encouraged them to forge ahead as leaders in their field. He shared his own leadership journey and gave insights to the innovation and continuous improvement process at Viva Energy who with Shell, have been strong supporters of the Leadership for Manufacturing Excellence program over the years.
The Best Project was won by Jacques Lui, Energy and Utilities Engineer at Viva Energy who has implemented new technologies and an innovative system for reducing energy costs. This title has previously been won by GT Recycling, Malteurop, Aus Pits and Boomaroo Nurseries.
