Lyn George is the co-owner and Corporate Director of Austeng, a family owned boutique engineering business located in North Geelong, Victoria that specialises in the design, engineering and development of customised equipment for industry .
With a legal background (graduating with an Arts/Law (Hons) degree from Melbourne University) her commercial/legal skills complement the engineering expertise of her husband Ross.
Austeng was inducted into the Victorian Manufacturing Hall of Fame in 2009 in recognition of its outstanding reputation and track record in the industry .
Traditional manufacturing, particularly in Geelong, has been under intense pressure to survive and compete. In the last five years, Lyn has been instrumental in re-structuring and re-positioning Austeng’s focus from very much reliant on the automotive industry to operating in several new sectors and, in particular, working with start up companies and leading Universities. This has led to a new business model in which Austeng works collaboratively and closely with a number of their clients to facilitate the path toward rapid commercialisation.
Lyn is currently Chair of the Geelong Manufacturing Council as well as on the Board of the Advanced Fibre Cluster – Geelong, and City of Greater Geelong UNESCO City of Design Working Group. She is also an advisor to a number of start-up companies.
